Anderson’s Maple Syrup, Inc. has been a family business for over 80 years. Paul Anderson started in the early 1920’s as a hobby to put some syrup on the table. By the late 40’s the family found there was greater opportunity to be had in the maple syrup business than in farming, so they sold all their cows and took the leap. Today, most of the bottling and delivery is handled by great-great-grandson Steve and his longtime friend, Fred.
About the syrup: For the worthiest of waffles. It took nearly 3 gallons of sap to make our little bottle of sweet nectar. Grade A, dark amber, delicately nuanced with warmly sweet maple—no wonder they call it liquid gold.
About the sugar: Maple sugar is what happens when the excess water in maple syrup is (carefully) boiled off. Twice as sweet as granulated sugar, maple sugar adds a deeply fragrant touch to oatmeal, ice cream, and baked goods. Also a revelation on buttered toast.
